Houston Poetry Fest 2017 Youth Poet
Competition and the
Mary Villarreal Memorial Award
All poets aged 14 or younger as of October 15, 2017, are eligible for the Mary
Villarreal Memorial Award, established by Richard Gamez in memory of his mother,
who greatly loved children.
The winner will receive an award of $100, and will
be invited to read one of his or her poems as part of the Houston Poetry Fest 2017 Sunday afternoon
session, which begins Sunday, October 15, at 2:00
p.m. at Willow Street Pump Station, on the campus of UH-Downtown. Houston Poetry Fest is partnering with Writers in the Schools (WITS) to offer this opportunity to Houston's young poets.
Family and friends are welcome, as the entire event is free and open to the public.
There is no submission fee for youth poets to enter the Houston Poetry Fest
Youth Poet competition.
Deadline: submit your poems

Give your submission a title. The name of one of the poems would work. as does the generic title "Youth Poet Submission."
Submit no more than 5 poems on no more
than 3 pages.
The submission should be in
